For Immediate Release Web Simulations Ships its
First Product:
ACM for Windows
Sophisticated
Internet-ready Flight Simulator
Available as Complete Source Code
RICHARDSON, TX. - October 7,
1997 - Web Simulations, Inc., announced today the release
of its first product, ACM for Windows. This modern air
combat simulation allows multiple players to fly F-16
Falcon or MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters over a shared,
Internet-based battlefield.
ACM is the first consumer-oriented
simulation to support the Distributed Interactive
Simulation (DIS) protocol. DIS is an open standard
originally sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense.
Use of DIS allows simulations written by different
vendors to interact in a common virtual world.
Web Simulations has married the DIS
protocol with Microsoft's DirectPlay network gaming
software. The company intends to publish information
about its layering of DIS and DirectPlay to allow other
game vendors to create a completely new class of consumer
simulations that would interoperate with one another.
ACM for Windows is also unique in that
it is available in complete source code form. "There
are a lot of sophisticated PC flight simulation hobbyists
in the world today", says Riley Rainey, author of
ACM for Windows. "By exposing the whole of a large
simulation, we're encouraging them to tinker at a whole
new level".
