When trying to run ACM for Windows, some people have encountered an error stating the file WS2_32.DLL could not be found. This technical note describes what's going on.
ACM's Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) support requires Microsoft's implementation of the Winsock 2 programming interface. Winsock 2 is a separate, add-on component not included with basic Windows 95. It is part of Windows/NT 4.0, but I believe that you must have the TCP/IP network components installed to have winsock 2 support.
The evaluation version of ACM for Windows 95 includes Microsoft's Winsock 2 runtime installer. The current source distribution of ACM, however, does not include this component. If you run into this error on a Windows 95 system, you have two choices:
